While putting together my own online collection of for Scottish Country Dance (SCD)
music, I found that various people had transcribed most of Bert's collection to ABC
form, and many had sent me copies of their sets with his tunes. Unfortunately, the
quality of these transcriptions varied a lot. So I got a copy of the printed collection,
and made new transcriptions that were faithful to Bert's published version, as accurately
as could be done in ABC. When I realized that I had most of the collection, the obvious
thing to do was to complete it by transcribing the remaining tunes as I had time. This
is the result so far. The one thing I've been tempted to do is add chords, which would
be useful for bands playing these tunes. But I've resisted that temptation and put those
versions elsewhere, in my SCD collection, since they're not Bert's version, and I can't
presume to know the "right" chords that he might have used. In any case, SCD musicians
will probably want a printed copy, if it's still available when you read this. The best
way to find the printed edition is probably to ask your favorite search site for
"Bert Murray" and "Bon Accord Collection".
